Omnia Khalil, Ph.D. is a doctoral lecturer at the City College of New York, and an affiliated professor of the Earth & Environmental Science Doctoral Program, CUNY Graduate Center. Her research under the title The Making of Counter-Insurgent Geographies in Post-revolutionary Cairo analyzes redevelopment and securitization of Bulaq Abule’lla where thousands of families were dispossessed after the Egyptian revolution of 2011. Khalil has made public interventions at MadaMasr, Almanassa, and Assfair Alarabi, and written papers for various academic journals. She focuses on critical urban geography, political economy, securitization, violence and (counter) insurgency.

Dr. Marko Jovanović serves as a Research Associate at the Institute of Social Sciences in Belgrade, Serbia. He has been a part of the Institute since 2018 and has actively contributed to the implementation of numerous international and national research projects, including those funded by Erasmus Jean Monnet, Horizon 2020, the Council of Europe, UNICEF, EMCDDA, as well as the European Social Survey. He has also led several of these projects. Marko earned his PhD from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Philology, and completed his BA and MA at the same faculty, specializing in Oriental Studies. Additionally, he holds an MA in International Politics from the University of Belgrade, Faculty of Political Sciences. Dr. Jovanović has presented his work at academic conferences hosted by prestigious universities worldwide, such as the University of Cambridge, Harvard University, the University of Chicago, the University of Edinburgh, St. Andrews University, and the University of Bonn.

Chada Bachri is a dedicated Ph.D. candidate in the field of Education and Humanities at Bordeaux-Montaigne University, with a fervent interest in the political and intercultural dimensions of French language teaching in Egypt. Holding dual master’s degrees—one in Foreign Language Teaching from Ondokuz Mayıs University in 2021, and the other in Educational Sciences from Bordeaux University in 2022— Chada brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to their academic pursuits. Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program, Chada is actively engaged in exploring the multifaceted impacts of foreign language education, with a particular focus on the political, economic, and intercultural dynamics at play. Their research endeavors center on unraveling the complexities of language pedagogy in diverse sociopolitical contexts, with a keen eye toward understanding how language education shapes societal norms and perceptions. Leveraging their fluency in Arabic, French, English, and Turkish, Chada seeks to offer valuable insights into the transformative potential of language education initiatives in fostering economic development and enhancing cross-cultural understanding. Currently serving as a visiting researcher at CEDEJ in Cairo, Chada is deeply immersed in their research on education and language teaching in Egypt, further enriching their understanding of the regional dynamics and challenges. With a strong research background and a passion for bridging academic disciplines, Chada is poised to make significant contributions to the study of language education and its broader societal implications.
