Finding Hope in a Time of Crisis
May 17 @ 7:00 pm
“Finding Hope in a Time of (Civilizational) Crisis”
The world is confronting an ever greater political, social and ecological crisis. Yet we seem to be digging ourselves into an even deeper hole. Where can we find solutions and hope to build the just world we need?
Nick Buxton of the Transnational Institute and co-founder of the Transformative Cities Award will explore the underlying causes of our systemic crises, and the solutions and alternatives emerging in cities and communities worldwide that hold out hope in difficult times.
Bio: Nick Buxton is an activist and researcher at the Transnational Institute. He works actively on issues of climate change, militarism, economic justice and public alternatives and was co-editor of the book The Secure and the Dispossessed – How the military and corporations are seeking to shape a climate-changed world (University of Chicago Press, November 2015). He has been based in California since September 2008 and prior to that lived in Bolivia for four years working with social movements fighting water privatisation and unjust free trade agreements.
