Archive News: UCSB and Stanford Scholar Roland Benedikter receives Klaus Reichert Award in Germany

Orfalea Center visiting research scholar Dr. Roland Benedikter has won the Klaus Reichert Award for Medical Philosophy 2012. The award is given by the Center for Medical Philosophy in Karlsruhe, Germany, and has been awarded to Benedikter in recognition of his work in global medical ethics and his engagement with issues at the intersection of contemporary politics, sociology, ethics, and medicine in more than a dozen publications on the globalization of medicine. In particular, the award recognizes Benedikter’s contributions to re-humanizing contemporary thought and international debate around the question of the future of the human being in times of “transhumanism” and “hyper-technologization.” The Reichert Award is the most highly regarded academic award of its kind in Germany and is Benedikter’s fifth scientific award. The award ceremony was held on October 6, 2012 in Karlsruhe.
